According to the WA Sustainable Energy Association (WA SEA), Australia’s largest state-based sustainable energy business chamber, the scheme is the most generous state-based incentive to support renewable energy generation for households.
“The GFiT of 60 cents per kilowatt hour, which WA SEA understands is available only if homes also take on 100 per cent green power supply, will allow home owners in WA to completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions previously associated with electricity use in those homes,” said WA SEA CEO Dr Ray Wills.
Dr Wills pointed out that, coupled with the Federal Government Solar Credits scheme which applies to any kind of renewable energy, smaller systems would be able to be paid off in a very short time, with payback of larger systems predicted at less than nine years.
Dr Wills said that WA SEA would now look forward to further discussion with The Western Australian Government that can see the state ramp up use of Western Australia’s massive renewable energy resources.

CEO of the Clean Energy Council Matthew Warren also welcomed the budget decision, and urged the Government to publish the final details of the scheme as soon as possible.
Mr Warren added that this is a crucial time in policy development for Australia’s clean energy industry with legislation for a Renewable Energy Target set to pass through Federal Parliament in the coming weeks.
“It’s important that the industry continues to remain focussed on ensuring governments deliver on driving accelerated development of this fast emerging industry as quickly as possible,” said Mr Warren.
