Approximately 800 delegates from across the globe visited the South Australian capital to hear over 90 speakers from more than 30 countries examine the latest thinking in sustainable options for the future.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nephew of the late US President John F. Kennedy, headlined the line-up of speakers. He spoke about his commitment to protecting the environment not for its own sake but for future generations, arguing that the environment is a fundamental source of our values, virtues and guide to our actions. Mr Kennedy Jr. is an author, environmental lawyer and senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council and was recently named one of Time magazine’s ‘Heroes for the Planet’.

Other prominent speakers at the conference included Australian Minister for Environment, Heritage and the Arts Peter Garrett, Premier of the Province of Manitoba, Canada Gary Doer who was included in Business Week magazine’s top 20 world leaders on climate change and clean energy development, and former Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer John-Ellice Flint.

BP Solar Australasia Regional Director Brooke Miller and former Premier of New South Wales and consultant to Macquarie Bank Bob Carr also formed part of a panel discussing the way forward in a carbon constrained world.
