The South Australian Opposition has said that, if elected, it will ban new wind farms being built less than 2 kms from an existing residence.
State Liberal Party Leader Isobel Redmond said: “The South Australian Liberals believe wind farms must not be approved on sites where they create negative economic and social effects.”
If elected, the Party proposes to:
Ban new wind turbines from being built closer than 2 kms from an existing home
Allow third-party appeal rights
Help develop national guidelines regarding separation distances and noise emissions
Develop a state-wide zoning plan outlining where industrial wind turbines will be allowed
Adopt a new approval process for wind farms which will consider associated infrastructure.
Clean Energy Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Kane Thornton, said: “As we’ve seen in Victoria, such measures would effectively make South Australia a ‘no-go’ zone for wind farms, driving billions of dollars of investment from the state."
