A wind farm, comprising of three 800 kW turbines, located near Western Australia’s Mt Barker, will receive $4.2 million in Federal Government funding, the Minister for the Environment Peter Garrett has announced.
The wind farm, situated 3.3 km north of Mt Barker, is being proposed by SkyFarming, a Perth-based company that has also been involved in the Denmark Community Windfarm, through the project company Mt Barker Power Company.
The three turbines will generate approximately 8,400 MWh of electricity each year, and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 8,000 tonnes annually.
The Mt Barker wind farm will be funded under the Australian Government's Renewable Remote Power Generation Program and administered by the Sustainable Energy Development Office in Western Australia.
Western Australia has 17 wind farms – five connected to the main electricity grid and twelve supplying renewable energy directly to local communities and business.
