AGIC develops new rating tool
The Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) is spearheading the development of a national sustainability rating scheme to promote innovative, social, economic and environmental performance in the design, construction and operation of new and upgraded infrastructure assets.
The AGIC Rating Tool will provide a national metrics framework for sustainability assessment of projects in the Australian infrastructure market.
AGIC has commenced Round 2 of 14 Pilot Trials, following the successful completion of Round 1. Round 2 Trials will be held in most states and territories, and its assessment team has undertaken workshops with project teams to test the tool on real ventures.
Round 2 Pilot Trials began in October 2011, and will be completed before the end of the year. A panel of AGIC assessors and verifiers will assist with the review of self-assessments in Round 2.
AGIC recently engaged GHD to assist in developing a weighting methodology for the Rating Tool (to be finalised by the end of 2011), for which AGIC will be seeking stakeholder input.
A draft version of the rating tool was released in October 2011 following the AGIC National Conference, Our Brave New World: Where Metrics Drive Sustainability. This marked the start of the stakeholder comment period, and AGIC is currently inviting feedback on the draft version of the tool.
The feedback will be taken on board, along with the results of the Pilot Trials, in finalising the scheme, ready for its launch on 21 February 2012 at Parliament House in Canberra.
