Installed by eco-Kinetics, the 27 kW solar tracking system generates electricity for Alice Spring’s local grid located at the Desert Knowledge Centre.
The Alice Springs tracker uses a dual axis tracking platform. The trackers used are 27 m wide and 8.8 m high. Trackers of these dimensions can be installed closer than normal without shading one another.
Alice Springs boasts another solar tracking system, installed at the airport by Ingenero. The $2.3 million, 235 kW system became operational in August this year and will provide approximately 28 per cent of the airport’s total electricity requirements.
The Ingenero Alice Springs Airport solar tracking system was nominated for the EcoGen 2010 Award for the Most Outstanding Clean Energy Project.
